Hi everyone. I'm new to the potty training game (as is my son!) so looking for some advice.

So far he seems to be doing really well with wees. He's yet to tell me when he needs a wee but happy to have a wee when I encourage him (he can always have one too so can understand how). We've had a few accidents but if course that's to be expected.

I'm just wondering when children usually start to have a poo in the potty. As yet, he's only had them in his pull up / pants. This morning, he had a wee and literally the next minute he'd had a poo in his pants. I put it in to his potty so he could see where it should be going but I was expecting this as he's just learning.

Just curious I guess as to when he's likely to crack it, or is it one of those 'how long is a piece of string?' Type questions?

Thanks x

For me it was a case of being able to tell when he needed to go - squirming, fidgeting and grabbing at his bottom like he had a wedgie were some of the signs!

@Haworthia - thanks for replying. He's had 2 today and both times I was in the room and had no idea until he said he'd had a poo. I know it'll come I was curious when. X

With our son at 2 1/2 I reckon it took him a good week or 2 before he really made any proper attempt to go in the potty & not his pants or floor. Just as we were starting to wonder if we'd be clearing up poo forever he cracked it & hasn't looked back. He'll definitely get there Smile

@Jsh125 - thanks for replying. Still no poo in the potty but he's still doing well. He's told me the odd time when he needs to use the potty so making progress.
He was actually dry when I got him up this morning and I went to get the potty he said, 'mummy, I've had the biggest wee wee ever'- and he'd had a wee. All going in the right direction x

Our LO did her first conscious pull your trousers down first poo while out walking the dogs and the second was on the side of the road in a potty coming home from shopping. Before this point we had to spot she was just about to go and shove it under quick. Strangely she seems most comfortable to do them in her room at lights out when there are no distractions. I guess wees are easier to master because we wee far more than we poo
