I'm at my witts end.

We have 4 kids and was all potty trained the first 3 round 2/2.5. My little girl who was 3 last December is still in nappies and I just can't get her out of them!!

I've tried so many different things and she's getting such a big girl now I can't understand why she would want to still poop in her nappy. We've tried musical potty , different toilet seats, rewards, I've taken her to GP and no concerns. She's going to be 4 in December. Is anyone else's child this old before potty trained?! We've tried to be forceful and just leave the nappy off but she will just wee and poop wherever she is!
I have a lot of patience but this is just something else

My son was a few months over 3. I hadn't tried before but realised I might be waiting forever for him to miraculously tell me he's ready. So we just picked a day to start and told him the daytime nappies have gone now and he wears pants from now on. It was summer so we hung out in the garden for a few days and of course there were lots of accidents at first. He started being able to go when I told him to sit on the potty after 2-3 days and then progressed to saying when he needed to go.

I'm not sure how long you've tried the various things for, I'd say devote a week to taking away nappies and trying 'cold turkey' but if that doesn't work, take the pressure off and try in another couple of months. She'll get there in her own time.

Good luck.

I agree with pick a week, no more nappies, just bare in the garden with the potty, watch for cues, putting her on potty.

Persevere for a week and see how she goes.

@bethkate02 - I've just started with my son as he's 3.5 I thought it was time to give him a helping hand as it felt like he'd never do it.

He's doing very well and has had around 9 wees on the potty today so I'm thrilled. We only started a few days ago and today he's got undies on and he seems to really like them. Just one accident so far, but I think he needed to feel wet so he knew he didn't like it.

He's my first ( I have a 7mo daughter) so never potty trained anyone before so wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not sure how quickly kids are usually trained as I know they're all different, but thankfully we seem off to a really good start.

Good luck x

When you say you've tried so many things what exactly do you mean? How long did you give each one before you did each change? Sometimes we change things too quickly for our LOs and they have to start again from scratch with each change. Our LO is pretty much trained at home, mostly trained at my mum's but it's a work in progress everywhere else. She has to learn it for everywhere we go at the moment.
