Night time potty training, is he ready?

Hi everyone. Well I'm a fan of oh crap and we took the plunge with our 2.5 year old last week and he is doing so well. Down to no accidents or perhaps one before bed when getting sleepy. The problem we are finding is he is waking a lot in the night we think because he has learnt to hold his wee. He will wake up at be shouting for the potty though his nappy is usually a little wet before we go to bed. I was planning to give it longer before night time training as he loves his milk before bed and don't want to make it earlier which realistically we would need to. Has anyone else potty training and found it confused their little one overnight? Is it worth trying? I know oh crap is keen on doing it all at once but as I say I don't want to have to restrict fluids to a few hours earlier...

We did oh crap but I’m not night time training. I’ve read elsewhere that your body produces a hormone which keeps you dry at night and so they’re only dry when they produce enough of this hormone otherwise it’s just on you constantly waking them all night to wee. No thanks! We’ve got a toddler friend who had dry nappies in the morning and asked to go without nappies and has been dry at night for over a month with just one accident, where as my DC is 3.4 and still has very full nappies in the morning. I’m just going to leave them in them until I see they’re dry for a week or so.

My understanding is that night time seeing issue to a hormone,they are either ready are they aren't. my ds is 3.5 and has been potty trained in the day for a year, he still fills a nappy overnight, not sure how we could train this without a lot of tears as his wee body isn't ready

Mine did day and night at same time. It took about two weeks for them to be reliably dry. They are both good sleepers and fairly easy to potty train so guess just fortunate.

What pps said. Night time potty training is just hard work for you. Leave it til they're ready and let them and you sleep. They will hit the developmental level when they're dry at night when they're ready.

Do you put him on the toilet at say, around 10pm, before you go to bed? My oldest took a long time to be ready, but with two of mine (one has an iron bladder and doesn't need to be put on at 10) they slept better with an empty bladder and weren't waking in the night needing to wee.

Thanks everyone really sound advice. I hadn't picked up the hormone thing and that sounds pretty important so will keep moving on... and wait for him to be ready
