If you had a kid that was a nightmare to train, do you feel like sharing your story so that I don't feel quite so shit?

It's a long story but I'll shorten it for you- DS was 4 in May. We started potty training LAST JULY so he would be dry for nursery. He STILL has accidents almost every day!

He is definitely ready and definitely knows when he needs to go. He just can't be arsed and doesn't give a shit! I've tried EVERYTHING!

This week I thought we'd finally cracked it - he has been taking himself to the toilet or telling me when he needs to go and hardly even a dribble in his pants. I've been feeling positive and telling everyone that I thought this might be it. Then today he's had 3 accidents! We were supposed to be going to my mums for tea, but I stupidly told him he had to keep his pants dry. He obviously didn't but I've got to follow through so we're stuck at home on our own.

I am literally crying. I don't know where to go from here. I feel so fucking depressed and lonely about it. Everyone else's kids (including my DD) seem to train within weeks! What am I doing wrong???

My little girl was 3 in March and is just not interested at all, she done 2 wees on the potty about 2 mo the ago, I thought we had cracked it but nothing since. We kept her nappy off for a month but she would either hold her wee in all day or cry solidly until I have in and put her nappy on. She knows when she needs to go and will check with me that she is wearing a nappy so she can wee. I k have no idea where to go from here, I have a 6 year old boy who was so easy to pity train, was dry through the night straight away and only ever had 2 accident. I naively thought my little girl would be the same!

Just us two then! I honestly don't know where to go from here! DD was an absolute breeze and trained in 2 days before she was even 2. Maybe this is my penance?

So probably not what you want to hear but school is what sorted my son out. It was a nightmare, he had accidents daily sometimes more and I mostly felt like a total failure. It was horrific and literally the hardest thing I have done so far as a parent. He still has the occasional accident but it is much better than it was (he is 5, end of reception).

How did school sort him out @CharlieandLolaCat ? He's been at nursery since last September and starts reception this time. If being in nursery hasn't done it I just don't see how school will!

To be honest I am not sure, it just all seemed to stop and he seemed to sort himself out. I think with my DS he was (for the most part) lazy. They have toilets in the classroom and they are able to just go when they need to. He isn't perfect and is rubbish at cleaning himself but it just seemed to click.

Oh I hope you're right! I'm finding it so hard. And DH has just started a new job with longer hours that means he's not home to help as much
