Help!! 'Oh crap' method not working

Any advice would be much appreciated. Bought and read 'Oh Crap potty training' gearing up to get DS1 started on potty training (he's 29 months) we tried a few times before without much success, but this time not being able to drive post c-section i thought right lets stay in and give it a good go.

We are now on week 2, week 1 he would have about 3-4 accidents a day, only poo when night time nappy was put on. He seems aware that he is peeing but is very content to wee on the floor, was bottom half naked the whole week and not once would he sit on potty without being prompted and lifted on, wouldnt stay on unless in front of the TV and only then about half the time would hold pee then pee on floor. He can hold his pee while we are out for a good couple of hours. Week 2 has been the same so far but he just had his first poo accident and didnt tell me or seem bothered about it.

Any suggestions on what other mumsnetters have tried to help? The book really recommends getting them potty trained before 30 months otherwise the muscles that control peeing atrophy but all the advice I'm getting from other mums is to wait until he is older and it will be easier.

I have no idea what this method is but I have now trained two kids- one at 2.2 and one at 2.7 and both I started off with prompting. So roughly every 90 mins or so, take to the potty, ask them to wee in a no fuss manner and insist on it. No drama. Then slowly extend to 2 hours. And if you are leaving the house an additional wee.
Then once they had managed this successfully we were set and gradually over a period of a month we moved to them telling us rather than us prompting them.
He obviously has bladder control but can he pee on demand? If he can’t then I find potty training quite hard.

Yep he sounds physically ready but not emotionally ready
My dd trained at 3 years and 3 months and was dry in 48 hours
It need be no fuss if you wait until they are ready
' oh crap ' imo is just a waste of time
Also don't agree with asking someone to pee on demand every hour or two

And when I say dry I mean she was taking her self or asking to wee it wasn't promoted by us

I did Oh Crap! very successfully with my first child, my second was a nightmare with every method and my third took her own nappy off one day and refused to wear one again.

How are you doing Oh, Crap! My memory is failing a bit but I thought it relied on you working out when they need the loo and sticking them on the potty rather than them telling you? And not them sitting on the potty for ages? I remember the constant watching being incredibly tedious but shortlived.

I think lots of children successfully potty train after 30 months, so I wouldn’t stress yourself out trying to get it done by that deadline.

I've never heard the atrophy thing before but we trained my DS at 3y4m, we tried twice before but he wasn't ready.

When he was ready it was really simple, no stress and barely any accidents. Seriously there isn't a rush and it'll be obvious when he is ready.

You say you’re post c-section? If you’ve just had another baby that’s a lot of change for your DS to deal with and probably not the best time to try potty training. I’d personally stop and try again in a few months.

Hi i wouldn't feel pressured with age thing. My dd just got it at 3.3 and i really had myself stressed about her being older but i stuck with it. If you are having more misses than hits i would wait a few more weeks
