Getting toddler up to see in the night?

Ds1 is 2 yrs 10 months. Potty trained at easter, he had ut sorted in days, and after 4 days was dry at night. I left night time nappies on but had only 1 wet in 4 weeks so have stopped using them. All been fine. Waking up a bit earlier than usual needing a wee.

This week has got a cold and on the nights has been coughing a lot has wet the bed, 3 times in 7 days.

So I'm wondering if I should start getting him up to have a wee? If so when? Before I go to bed or middle of the night?
I've always been keen to avoid waking him as he used to be very difficult to get back to sleep though seems better now.

My DS potty trained at Easter too but only dry at night over the last 2 weeks, I'm purchasing reusable nappies for night use incase of accidents in the future. He usually wakes himself up if he needs a wee but I don't think lifting would work for boys as well as it does for girls.

Thanks for your reply. It does seem connected with the coughing. He coughed a lot the night I posted this so I went in and took him for a wee. Last night he coughed a little but and was dry this morning.

The other option would be to use two mattress protectors and sheets, if he wets during the night then you can just take the first set off so it's easier to get him back to sleep after
