Potty training

What else could I do?

My son is 3.5 and was successfully peeing in the potty/toilet for about a week last month. He would tell me when he needed to go and he would go. Miraculous, I thought.

Then all of a sudden he started refusing to use the potty or toilet and started begging for nappies. I kept him in underwear at home for a while but he would still beg me for a nappy to pee in, while jumping up and down, trying to hold it in. He refuses to sit on the potty/toilet even at this point and will just go ahead and wet himself, continuing to play happily while standing in a puddle of his own pee. Confused

"Incentives" (chocolate, coins in a jar...) worked for a day or two, but not any longer. He just refuses.

Am I missing something? What else can I do? I'm thinking of just trying again in the summertime but it's incredibly frustrating because he knows when he needs to go and can hold it if need be, but just flat out refuses to sit on the potty or toilet. Argh.
