How to get started?

Ds1 is 2.5 yrs. He tells me when he's going to do/is doing a poo . Will often say he has a sore tummy then have a poo (don't think it ishould sore as such, he's just identifying the feeling) and will say if he's having or had a wee. I've tried sitting him on the potty before his bath but he's never once wee'd in it . I think it's just the wrong time for him to need a wee.

He has hugely wet nighttime nappies, sleeps very well, at least 12 hrs, often 13.5

It's half term so was thinking of giving potty training a go but really no idea where to start! We rarely stay in the house all day. I have to go out at least once a day to animals.

Do you just stop daytime nappies? Keep asking if he needs to wee?

Read the Oh Crap book and all will be explained! It's actually a really good book (you can download it) and you only need to read the first few chapters go give you a good idea of a plan.

Hi my Son is 2.5 yrs and we are on Day 4 of potty training. He is doing so well. I have heard about the oh crap book but not read it. They basically say naked from the waist first then go onto commando under trousers,no pants for at least a month. Google it?! So I have left him naked from the waist down for 3 days. I have to do the school run as I have an older son so if he comes with me he is commando! Day 4 today and we have put trousers on,commando underneath. No accidents so far. He tells me if he needs to go wee or poo then I just help him with his trousers.

So a nappy to go out would be confusing? What about the car seat??

No nappies, only at night. Yes you would be confusing them and they would never learn. Regards to car seat,if it's a short journey then make sure they go wee before you set off and ask again when you get to your destination. If they say they need to go while driving then I would just pull over.

My DS was potty trained over 3 days. We took advantage of a bank holiday weekend. Only used a nappy at night. Stayed indoors for the whole weekend, heating cranked up and let DS run around naked. I got a tiny paddling pool and put it in the middle of the living room. We had laminated flooring and I put loads of towels and old bedding down. We played lots of water games and had the potty in view at all times. He took to it really quickly. Good luck!

We’re on week2 currently. My advice is just bite the bullet and go for it. Bin the nappies and don’t be tempted (unless they’ve not twigged at all in 10days ish?)

We did naked from waist down for just under a week, then just trousers and now we’re just normal.
It took a day of accidents and chasing, by day two of naked waist down she was going herself and now can tell me when she needs to.
I’m aware she must have been very ready though as my first was not this quick and I certainly don’t think it’s the norm so don’t get worried if it takes a little longer to catch on.
Also we use pull ups for sleep time at the mo, that’s a whole other battle!

We have a towel on the car seat just in case and a potty in the boot

I bought the OH CRAP book after recommendations on here and it was so easy. It's still pretty pricey on amazon happy to post ours on if you'd like it. It was so good we are three weeks in and don't need it!

That's really kind poddige, id already ordered it before seeing your post sadly!

Im really not keen on this whole idea I have to say. The house isn't a warm one and I have a 1 yr old aswell and we never stay in as I got stir crazy and the toddler starts to misbehave after a while. I'm dreading it.

I had to do it with a cluster feeding 6 week old, not the most fun but it really wasn't as bad as I expected. We did it last Feb so it was cold so I left DD with a top on in the house rather than fully naked. We got out in the garden in the afternoon of the first day so it wasn't so bad and then by day 2 we went for a short walk and a quick bike ride.

Could anybody take the baby for the first day to take the pressure off you a bit?
