Pull-ups for 5 year old

Hello - first post on here. We have 2 lovely boys - one is 5 and the other is 3 in Feb and have used pull-ups at night with both. We have just potty-trained the younger boy and having had dry pull-ups for the last few nights he had his first night without them last night and was dry this morning. Having seen his younger brother getting ready for bed without pull-ups the older boy wanted to try without them last night too - and despite the fact that he is usually wet in the morning we let him. He woke up soaked and was a bit upset by it. We've already had one failed attempt at dropping the pull-ups with the older boy so are torn about what to do. Do we go back to pull ups until he is has a few days of being dry in the morning, or do we continue without them and try and give him as much support as possible? Having read about the hormone vassopresin we probably shouldn't have let him go without them last night but don't want to compound our mistake by flipping from pull-ups/no pull-ups too many times.

Have you tried lifting him to the toilet before you go to bed at night? 11pm-ish?

My ds was incontenent at night until age 10. The enuresis clinic told us NOT to lift him, but it was literally the only thing that worked. He got into a habit and after a few weeks was waking himself to use the toilet at the same time we were waking him, and then soon after that he was sleeping through the night just fine. I don't know what "clicked" for him, but this method worked.

You are welcome to tell your son this story, so he knows that some children just take longer to be dry at night and that's okay.

My 4 year old is totally dry while her 5 year old sister isn't at night. It is what it is. I wouldn't stress about it

My 2 year old is mostly dry at night but my 5 year old isn’t. I still put my 5 year old in pull ups. He will be dry soon enough. I don’t even mention wet/dry pull ups etc.

I'd let him be. My 5 year old isn't dry at night but my 3 year old mostly is. He'll get there.

My DS was 7 when he was finally dry at night. He was dry in the day by 3yrs.
No amount of waking at 11pm made any difference so we left him in pull ups at night without any fuss and it seemed to resolve quite suddenly. He was always a very heavy sleeper who still sleeps very soundly, even sleeping through very strong storms as we live on the coast. I think you have to try and stay patient.

Hi if he is waking up soaked then he isn't ready yet and in my opinion
I would scrap pull ups and go back to regular nappies if he still fits in them as they hold twice as much as pull ups. If your son isn't cool with going back to nappies then I can only suggest drynites but like pull ups they are expensive whereas nappies are a lot cheaper and you get more in a pack. My daughter is 6 and still wears pampers baby dry size 7 or 6+ to bed she knows even though its a baby's nappy it does the job better than anything else so she doesn't care at all. I dunno just talk to him about it :)
