3 YO only using toilet if she's not wearing anything on her bottom

DD just turned 3. We started potty training when she was around 2.5 and it went really well. She had accidents when she was in pants, so we started putting her in pull-ups when going out. She started demanding a pull-up, so we thought maybe she just wasn't ready and stopped the potty training for a while. TBH we probably got a bit lazy, as did she, and she's now been in pull-ups for a while.

We've just started it up again, and as long as she's not wearing anything (pants, pull-ups, nappies) then she goes in the toilet or on the potty with absolutely no fuss - she doesn't even ask us, she just takes herself - so she's definitely ready. As soon as anything goes on her bottom, she doesn't use the toilet, even with us reminding her. Has anyone come across this before, and does anyone have any tips?

She knows what to do, I think there might just be an element of laziness here. A friend had a similar issue with her DS and she put him in pants and then put pull ups over the top, so he would feel uncomfortable and know what he'd done but she didn't have to clean up all the time. It did work.

No underwear and a pair of shorts / a skirt for a while.

Totally normal imo.

All 4 of mine were exactly the same.
We stayed in for 3 or 4 days while they got used to it then gradually introduced pants.

I seem to recall putting baggy trousers on them from time to time because it didn't feel like a nappy on them so they tended to still use the toilet

Yep time for no underwear until she cooperates. She know what to do and is being lazy.

Thanks everyone; you've pretty much confirmed what I thought anyway. I think it is laziness, on both sides to be honest and staying in for a few days with nothing on before slowly moving towards pants is a good tip. It's a good time, as we've done all our shopping and have nothing that we need to go out for!

Exactly the same thing with my DD1. Completely potty trained with a bare bottom & 100% not potty trained with pants on. It did right itself with just a few days at home with lots of fuss & stickers etc for successes.
I did actually visit family & a couple of close (also potty training) friends with dd1 wearing a dress & we just removed pants on arrival (having discussed before visiting, of course) She looked decent enough in a dress for good friends/family & it gave her the chance to use other people's bathrooms & experience success while out & about.
It will all be over soon!

Don't give her underwear for a few weeks to break the convection. Ditch the pull ups and just put her in dresses, adding leggings when you go out.

Reward her every time she uses the toilet. Whatever gets her motivated: star chart/chocolate buttons/pennies or whatever.
