8 month old potty training

I've not thought about potty training my son yet who is 13 months old. However I have seen a post on Facebook (a friend of a friend) had posted that her 8 month daughter has done her 10th poo ON the potty! Some comments she had replied and said she isn't walking confidently on her own yet. My point is... does an 8 month old really need to be potty trained. I know it's not really my business how she parents her child but I don't see it necessary as such a young age...

Google elimination communication. It's nuts, but it's what floats some folk's boat's. Can't ever get myself worked up about what anyone else does for potty training, just don't care enough. Competitive pooing is too esoteric for my taste.

It's an actual thing?! Hmm

To my mind it's just madness. For what reason does an 8 month be potty trained. It's just blew my mind lol.

my MiL did it with DH as he was in terry towelling nappies and it made washing them easier if he pooed in a potty! The kid isn't really learning anything much at that age, but if you learn their cues it makes cleaning up easier. She was on at me about it but I pointed out modern nappies were much less of a faff and waited until DS was 3 and asked for pants (1 accident on day 1 and bingo, potty trained) So, I am in the wait until they're totally ready camp, but as I said, horses for courses and different strokes for different folks!

Read "Diaper-Free before 3" - it might not be your thing, but you may see why she does what she does and why something that is a common practice in one society is not necessarily a convention elsewhere. We started introducing the potty as a concept around 1yo, did it gently/slowly, suited us and our family. I certainly did NOT post that on Facebook or anything else to do with my DC and their milestones as i don't think it's anyone else's business. I suppose to each their own, eh Smile

I do infant pottying, or elimination communication as it is called in the US. I know it does sound a bit nuts! It isn't potty training though, it's not diaper training your baby in the first place. Babies give signals for when they are hungry, tired etc, and for when they need to pee/poo. You learn their signals and just stick a potty or small bowl under them and boom, that's it. Saves lots on nappies and reduces number of poos as it encourages a very complete movement.

Never ever posted about it on any social media.
