Potty training

Now What?

Introduced the potty a few months ago but have been a bit on and off with trying to get 2 year old to use it. This week he's been naked from the waste down and without being asked he goes and sits on the potty to do his business. We've had two accidents but apart from that he's done really well. He's in day care tomorrow and and don't really know where to go from here. Do I put him in pants today and see how he gets on with them? If he's wearing a nappy he won't tell me he needs to go, he just does it in the nappy.
I don't know what to dooooo!

I'd try pants today, with lots of practising pulling them up and down. And pants tomorrow for day care, with lots of spare pants and trousers, socks etc just in case. Maybe just remind him in the morning that it may take longer to get to the potty/toilet at day care so he should go to it and/or tell one of his carers as soon as he gets 'that' feeling (depending on what their policy is), and ask the staff to 'remind' him if he hasn't been for an hour or two, just in case he's engrossed in something and it's slipped his mind. At DD's nursery, for the first few days they just had her in a t shirt and her pants, which made it easier (and less washing!). Also check if they will put him in a nappy at nap time, if he still has a nap.
It sounds like he's doing really well if he's taking himself off to the potty without being asked, so I'm sure he'll be fine. X

I called the day care after posting to see whether they wanted me to even attempt sending him in in pants or just put him in a nappy. They said try pants so I put him in pants today too so that it's not totally new to him tomorrow and I have literally spent the majority of the day cleaning wee off the floor. He drinks a fair bit so I'm talking gushing waterfalls, not just little dribbles. It was constant. Like every 15 mins. By about 2-3pm I gave up and let him go commando again. Will give it a week or two and try again Maybe!

OP can he just go commando? I only suggest this as I read somewhere that pants feel too snug like a nappy or pull up and they need to feel a bit 'naked'.

Potty training here and as long as he's covered when we go out in just jogging bottoms or jeans it's been fine - pants is just another layer to get wet and more washing anyway!

Good luck x

PS I found the Oh Crap book suggest on MN really helpful a godsend in fact
