Oh Crap! Nursery tomorrow!

We took the plunge and started potty training our 2 and half year old on Saturday. Yesterday he was still on block one and had three accidents. Sometimes he goes to the potty sometimes he needs prompting. One of the accidents was a full wee where he made no attempt to get on the potty. Admittedly it was my fault because I looked away for a few seconds! Just heard him downstairs with DH saying he'd done a poo on the potty so it's going ok but does it really sound like he will be ready to go commando at nursery tomorrow? I'm not sure what to do.

I'd use pull ups :)

I have literally just started today with my youngest! However, we're taking it slowly and I plan on keeping him in nappies when we're out of the house for now, unless he's very obviously ready not to do so. I'm envisaging the first couple of weeks will just be doing it home to get the idea. My eldest was ready quite quickly to just be in pants but they're two very different children so we shall see!

Our local nursery was more than happy to take the children with plenty of spare clothes for potty training if parents didn't want the pull ups. They also done reward charts for them. Maybe ask the staff for advice x

Go commando. No pull ups. Nappies at nap time. The chapter on day care is helpful if they're not helpful.

My DD's nursery preferred the no pull up approach, said if confused them. They may have had a point, she learned very quick once we went only knickers.

I agree with Nano; you've started so you may as well go for it! Plenty of spare clothes, get there early so you can chat to them about the Oh Crap method and explain why he's commando and ask them to try to follow it as best they can.

If he's sometimes going to the potty himself, that's definitely into block 2. It's a bit vague and confusing but I took block 1 to mean not a clue, block as sometimes starting to have some sort of clue.

Thanks for the replies. I called the nursery earlier and they said they are happy for him to arrive commando. They said not to put him in pull ups to avoid confusion. I've had the washing machine going so I hav plenty of spare changes to take in with him. I haven't had a chance for him to practice with clothes yet. I'm tempted to keep him off tomorrow and try commando at home. He's having a nap at the moment and I'm worn out! I've got a baby to look after as well so it's been intense to say the least but I know it will be worth it in the end. Today has brought mixed results so far. He's gone to the potty without prompting a couple of times. I've started using a timer of 30 minutes and encourage him to go on the potty if he hasn't been - sometimes he will go, others he won't. We've had about 3 accidents so far today. One was when he disappeared behind the curtain and did a wee. Totally my fault I just got distracted I should have known what would happen. There's no going back now. He's got nursery on Wednesday so I'm thinking keep him off tomorrow then send him in Wednesday afternoon for a short day commando. Good luck everyone else who's going through this. It's a messy business and my house looks like a wreck!

Oh and he's started saying he doesn't like the potty so I'm going to stop reminding him so much incase it's putting him off
