Potty training

WWYD? Potty train now or wait?

I've got a 2 week window to potty train DS (very nearly 3yo). If we could crack it now it'd be perfect timing, but for various reasons it has to be 'all or nothing' - if he's anything less than reliably dry in this fortnight we'd have to go back to nappies and try again in a few months.

He likes to sit on the toilet (we usually do it once a day before his bath), will try to wee and poo and quite often does.

However the rest of the time he shows no signs of awareness that he wants to wee/poo and usually denies all knowledge if I ask him if he is doing a poo when he quite clearly is.

Of course we could just give it a try now and see how we get on but I am worried about ending up 'nearly but not quite' after the fortnight or find DS reluctant to go back into nappies.

WWYD - try now or hold on until he is showing more signs?

I would wait if possible. No point adding more stress. He will likely be quite good after a week or so but it doesn't get reliable for quite a while I don't think.

I have a 12 day window that started yesterday. DS is 3 this month. He sounds very similar to your DS - will sit and sometimes wee in the toilet before bath time/at nursery but sometimes fibs about doing a poo if he's busy playing etc. We started potty training yesterday and it's not been particularly successful - I feel really despondent about it tbh. I'm under pressure from the school nursery he starts in September and my Mum but I'm not convinced he's completely ready. He keeps asking for his nappy back!

In your situation where it has to be done in 2 weeks reliably or go back to nappies I think I'd wait. Although so many people seem to say DC just 'got it' in a few days. It's difficult to know what to do for the best.

Good luck baking - hope it improves!

Thing is we'll never have another clear fortnight like this where we can clear the diary and throw everything at it. We'll be able to continue working on it after that fortnight but do really need to be past the regular accidents stage by then.
