Potty training

Total success with pee but no poo in potty yet. Help!

My son is now potty trained for pee and has been for a week. He has had very few accidents, even at the beginning. He still wears a nappy for bed and his afternoon nap. The trouble is, for as long as I can remember he has had his regular bowel movements first thing in the morning and then again during his nap. I thought this might change when we started potty training but it hasn't. This means he hasn't yet passed a bowel movement in the potty and I'm worried he will develop the wrong associations with his nappy for poo! One morning I got to him early enough before he passed his bowel movement. He got tons of encouragement to go in the potty but he kept saying he didn't need to go. During his nap in the afternoon, he had poo in his nappy as predicted! So clearly getting to him early enough has no impact! Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice to get round this?

We are about a week in to potty training and I noticed the same thing. I spoke to the nursery staff about it and they said it's really common and not to make a big deal about it. And today, we had our first poo in the potty, so my advice would be to let it be and see if he gets it in his own time.

Tmi but my ds wanted me to take a pic of his poo on the potty!! He proudly showed it to all family members!!
Also flushing the loo and saying goodbye to it was amusing to him!!
He is still nervous about 'trying' for one when suggested but after a reminder about being able to flush and his pleasure at seeing his 'huge whopper poo' he is spurring himself along.
Gross but effective it seems!!
(apologies if it's a meal time for readers)

It took DS1 a year to poo in the potty/toilet and 3 months for DS2. Don't panic after a week :). It'll happen eventually!

Ahh these replies are very reassuring! I was worried that he might not get that poo goes in the potty or toilet too, but it sounds like his situation is very common. Thanks everyone!
