Scared to leave the house!

Just started potty training my 2 year old little boy last week. He's doing so well and has mastered the potty, pulling his pants down and has been dry for 5 nights in a row.

We've basically been house bound for a week and am now a bit scared to leave!

Anyone have any tips for how to prepare them to take these new skills public?!
Do I take a potty or do I only go to places with a toilet for a while?

I'm in a similar boat. Day 2 of potty training my two year old, but I have worked with potty training toddlers before. However it's starting to feel all new again!
I'm going to brave a 30 minute drive out tomorrow, limiting drinks and ensuring DS wee's before we leave. We have a travel potty, that I will bring and just try to stick with what we do at home. Try reminding, and taking every x amount of time (for us it's 30-45 minutes).
Safe to say I am very nervous too! DS is going stir crazy being stuck at home, as am I. I don't think I could stay in for a whole week! I hope it goes well for you OP, good luck!
P.s remember loads of spare pants, wipes and bottoms!

Same need to go to shops tomorrow but what will i do if he wees in his carseat

I'm nervous about the car trip too. DS doesn't nap during the day, but will sometimes fall asleep in the car unexpected, so I worry he will have an accident whilst he's asleep!
People have suggested getting those waterproof mats/pads, like puppy training ones. I believe you can get some especially for car seats from amazon etc. I should have thought about it before I started really . I might just put a towel down, and hope for the best, until I can get some car seat pads.

a few things:

Yes take a potty or a toddler loo seat with you. Everywhere! And a spare change of clothes.

I find with DD that sometimes she'll say she needs to go to the loo, but usually I have to say I do and will she come with me and help. Then once in the toilet I put her potty next to the toilet and suggest we go together. Often this works even when she's just said she doesn't need to go.

Handdriers are not your friend. Do not accidentally set them off when entering a public toilet. DD still freaks out about them!

I think you just need to go for it. Put an opened out nappy under his bum, take a few changes of clothes, and make some wee stops while you are out.

You could invest in a travel potty

Casting my mind back about 10 years...
Took a potty with a lid for the boot of the car - very useful when at the playground.
Had a great fold up toilet seat for putting on adult toilets at the shops - lots of practise with it at home first though so not too strange.
I put a towel or change mat on the car seat and always had a bag with several changes of clothes.

I think we used pullups, possibly just pulled on over underpants, for trips out / longer car journeys / naps, until we could be confident.

Put a towel under him in the car seat.
Take a potty with you in a bag so one can see it.
Take loads of spare clothes and some baby wipes. Sit him on the potty just before you go and regularly when you are out to avoid accidents. If hes just been he shouldn't do one in the car.
Do not limit drink as thats bad for him.

Put nappy pads down in the car seat or just wash it - don't let it rule your life!!

For the first week, I just went to places with easy access to toilets (playgroups and classes) and then once we were a bit more confident we were back to normal.

We had:

• Potty in the boot of the car
• Travel toilet seat in changing bag
• Spare clothes

Don't put nappies or pull ups on to go out. You'll just confuse him. It'll be fine!

It went really well actually!
Our first car trip was a 30 minute drive, and I made sure he went to the toilet before we left. He also fell asleep for 20 minutes on the way home, and didn't have an accident. Took another drive today to a shopping centre, and he held it for over an hour.
I'd like to say we're nailing this, but I might jinx myself . He hasn't had an accident since Wednesday though, so I'm very proud. How's your DS getting on? Good luck with the car journeys, they really aren't as bad as I originally thought they'd be!

Just trained my 22 month old. We stayed at home the first couple of days (it was really sunny so we just played in the garden) apart from DD1's pre school runs. Then did mainly trips to mainly outdoor places and took a potette with us to get her used to doing it away from the house. Then just started going about our business as usual. I try to get her to wee just before we leave (she won't always) and then a lot of reminding when out and about!
An accident isn't the end of the world. Take spare clothes.
Oh and I put a puppy training pad under her in the car seat!
