Potty training

Continue night training or not?

DS is 3.9. He has been fully day-trained since 3.2.

He recently often woke up with dry night pull-ups, so we thought we try putting him in pants. He has started going to the loo at night (normally once or twice in the first hour after lights out - it's probably more of a sleep delaying tactic to be honest....), and once he woke up in the middle of the night asking for the toilet. That night he was dry, and he has also managed a few further dry nights. But there have also been many nights when he woke up wet. This morning he told me that he didn't go to the toilet because he was asleep when he weed...
So.. is it worth continuing? Would be grateful for your opinions!

Why bother? Aren't wet sheets more hassle than a nappy?

Yes, they are, but he seemed to be ready. Not so sure now obviously!

Put him on to the potty before you go to bed; even if he is asleep he should wee; or will briefly rouse and wee then go back to sleep. My dd was dry night and day from 2years and always did this (still done this sometimes and she is 6!) also keep potty in his room throughout night; he's more likely to get up and use it and go back to bed if it's in his room rather than go to bathroom. I think you will get wildly different replies. I'd probably call the health visitor.

Night time dryness isn't something they can learn. It's down to the production of a particular hormone.

Honestly I would keep him in pull ups and wait until he is dry at night every day for a month or so. Without waking him to go to the loo or "lifting" him in the night. It's a hormone thing and will happen when he is ready. No rush at his age definitely!

DD was dry in the day at 2.1. She was only dry at night in the last couple of months, at 4 and a half. It's hormonal, you can't force it. Put him back in nappies, spare yourself the washing and wait for him to be reliably dry for a fortnight or so
