DD unreliable with using toilet still

Hi all,

My daughter recently turned 4 years old and we have had the hardest time potty/toilet training her. She can now use the toilet perfectly well but she still has at least a couple of accidents every day. On 2 or 3 occasions she has managed to stay dry all day but it's quite rare.

The accidents have generally got smaller, she realises as she starts weeing that she should have gone up to the toilet so we still have to change her. Occasionally she will have a bigger accident still. She does get upset about it when it happens and knows she isn't supposed to do it but yet she still continues to do it.

I think there is an element of not wanting to stop what she is doing but other times I don't think that's the case.

I really want to get this under control now as she starts school in September. I feel as though we have tried every trick in the book to no avail. Has anyone else been through this who can offer some advice or just some hope that we will get there?!

Hello! We're in the same boat. Dd is 3.5 and the same but she doesn't care when she wets. She's fine with poo but not wee. Your dd sounds physical because she is trying and is upset when she has an accident. Have you take her to the GP?

If it's really she's just waiting too long, have her help clean up when she does have an accident. It will take a "long time" in her eyes and more hassle than leaving her game to get to loo on time.

Yes, my DD had multiple accidents daily from potty training aged 2.8 to the day she started reception aged 3.11. She didn't care at all at nursery! Preferred to just keep on playing. But starting school where she had to walk down the corridor to the loos and it was all grown up and she had to follow rules (school was a terrible shock to her system) - all accidents ceased from that day forth! So very much dependent on will in our case.
