How do you know when they are ready to stop wearing nappies at night?

DS is 2.5 and has been dry in the daytime for a couple of weeks or so now after potty training him at Christmas.

Luckily potty training went surprisingly well and he picked it up fast. For the last 3 nights his night nappies have been completely dry in the morning and he's been doing hug wees on the potty in the morning! Before we potty trained, his night nappies were very heavy and full by the morning.

How many dry nights until we give up the nappies? I was anticipating at least another year of night nappies but at this rate it looks like it'll be sooner. I don't know when it's "safe" to stop putting night nappies on though...

Haha it's never completely safe but I would give it a go based on what you've said. Just make sure the bed is protected.

I left night nappies on for a long time. Way after dd was dry all night. I never had to deal with a wet bed.

I personally left it for about a year after dry nappies started appearing, but if you feel he's ready then try it, go for it and if the wet beds start go back to nappies for a while.

DC been dry over 2 weeks now.so far so good. Not planning to take him out of night nappies any time soon, just incase. We have had one or 2 cases of horrific diarrhea at night recently and he simply didn't make it. Thank god for the nappy.

I'm a big believer in keeping them in night nappies for as long as possible.

I left night nappies for around 8 months. They were potty trained at Xmas, dry at night in the spring but I kept night nappies until after our summer holiday, just in case.

Thanks for the advice. We have left him in nappies for the last week or so. He had about 2 weeks of dry nappies at night but a couple of days ago his nappy was quite wet in the morning. So I guess he's almost ready but not quite. I think I'll wait til he's consistently dry for at least a month or so!

Naptime though, I'm not sure. He's not had a wee during his nap for the last few weeks and the other day I forgot to put a nappy on him at naptime and his pants were completely dry. I wonder if I should give up the naptime ones before we give up the night time ones!

Definitely give up the nap time ones before the night time ones. We left it about a month of dry night time nappies before giving them up (successfully but let's not jinx it!!) but still use a waterproof under sheet just in case and he has his milk an Hour before bed instead of at bed time so it's had time to pass through before he goes down
