Potty training

Part time potty training!

My fiancé has shared custody of his 2 and a half year old daughter, and currently sees her every other weekend. Her mother has little to no interest in any sort of interaction with her little one, so she is quite behind in her speech and development. She is still in nappies which I understand is normal for this age but she is beyond ready as she is telling us when she needs a wee or when she has just done a wee.

My question/query is how would we be able to get her to start using her potty when we only have her 2 weekends out of 4? We have tried to get the mother to start potty training but things are less than amicable between the 2 sides of the family so communication is difficult..

Many thanks! Smile

This is really tough - I think you need to dedicate a week and just stay at home full time and go for it in earnest which your partner can't really do. Will he have her staying for a longer period of time over the next few weeks/ months? That might be a good time to do it. Can he sell it to her mother/ get her on board by telling her how much money she would save on nappies?

The longest he'll have her for the next couple months will be 3-4 days around Christmas which won't be the best time to start as she'll be excited and focused on that. Relations with mum are very strained and they don't really talk at all apart from arranging pick up or drop off of little one. I've been tempted to reach out to her as she doesn't know me properly and I'm involved with her daughter so could bring it up then but my partner is discouraging this so I'm a bit lost!

We were in the same situation. When my husbands ds was 3.5 we bit the bullet. Booked a weeks holiday and just left his nappy off. He took to it straight away (although at 6 now he's still not dry at night) then we took him back to his mum and just told her how well he's done and asked him to tell her he doesn't need nappies anymore :) it worked
