How do I get the smell of urine out of shoes?!

Ds had an accident whilst wearing his clarks leather light up shoes.

They now stink of urine. (Didn't help that I used the hairdryer to try and set them)

I'm not sure they can go in the wash. Febreeze doesn't work.

Any ideas??

I've machine washed leather shoes before. It's not ideal but better thank stinking of pee. And my top potty training tip is to let them wear crocs or similar for a few weeks. Easily rinsed out!

Thank you. I might have to stick them in the machine! He's been potty trained a while but has only recently started nursery (where he had the accident). So I think he just got carried away playing!

I wouldn't machine wash them but a hand wash or spray with biological washing powder/liquid mixed with water should remove the smell.

I would not put them in machine.

Get antibacterial wipes, wipe inside and outside and then put them outside for the day.

Clarks sell shoes designed to go the washing machine. Each of my dc has a machine washable pair of trainers from there.

Zoflora will get rid of urine smells. Use as directed on the bottle. It may say don't use on leather but I have sprayed it on and wiped off before without any visible damage.

It's either baking soda or bicarb supposedly absorbs odours. I would machine wash them as I think that makes shoes smelly anyway

We're potty training as well at the moment (fun, isn't it?) and we have puppy urine off spray - it breaks down the urine so it doesn't smell. Not sure how successfully you could get it into shoes but worth a try?

Febreeze worked miracles on our rug, i would try that (maybe just on the inside of the shoes).

you can use cat litter to remove odours but just a bit expensive.

Wash them in the machine but put them in a bag of some sort

It was FIVE years ago. I imagine the shoes are in the bin by now.
