Potty training

3yo will not potty train

My dd will not use the potty. Completely freaks out at the sight of pants and will not go without her nappy. I've tried pretty much everything! Bribery, charts, rewards but she will have none of it. I'm really worried she's not going to grow out of this problem anytime soon and most certainly growing out of nappies quite quick. Any suggestions please? Anyone? Grin

I think you just have to wait until she's ready. You can't force it. They do nappies that fit up to adult size, so don't think you have to worry on that front.

Is this your first child? What if there were no nappies in the house? Just a little naked bottom and a potty. Yes it means staying home lots for a few days.

My DS1 was like that. Just kept saying no. I finally cracked it by buying pants with his favourite character on them. He wanted to wear them straight away and after that was potty trained in about 4 days.

I tried to train my 2.11 yr old last month. It was a disaster and she just wasn't ready. I tried everything too and there were a lot of tears. Probably not what you want to hear but I've backed right off and don't even mention it now. Instead I've taken the subliminal route! I've moved her into pull ups and ditched the nappies. I made quite a thing about this milestone and when I change her we do it in the bathroom standing up. We put any poo down the toilet and she flushes, we wipe her bum and wash hands. I always put her toilet seat on for her and the potty is also there as an option, but I don't ask her any more as I know she will just say no. I'm hoping by backing off majorly she will start to want to try. I also leave a potty in the living room for her. To her credit in the last few days she's started to tell me when she's pooed and weed - she never did this before - and ask for her pull up to be changed.

I've basically decided we'll play the long game. It's not going to be quick!

Yes my first & only child. She's far from stupid haha! If I say there are no nappies you can see the panic in her face and she knows there are some in her bag or that I'm just joking. I've done character pants. She not having it she literally goes hysterical sobbing her heart out & it's distressing to see. I like the sound of change her in the bathroom Maybe try that as well. Thanks everyone

Seriously, I'd just back off and try again in a few months/ half a year. She's clearly not ready. Forcing it will only create issues.
