First trip out since potty training - advice please

Started training DD1 two wks ago. She just turned 2 at the end of October. She's been doing great. Pees and poos in the potty from when we started but still has the ocassional accident (once every 2/3 days).

Tomorrow a wee playgroup we go to starts back and just looking for advice as to how to approach it. The accidents she's had have been when she's been too focused on playing so I'm fully expecting an accident tomorrow as she's not seen her wee pals since well before Christmas so she'll be really excited. I don't want to put her back in a nappy as that kind of defeats all our hard work but I don't want her getting upset if she wets herself (and getting my friends upset if their wee ones end up running through a puddle in their stocking soles). I've bought training pants to try as I've read that these contain it a wee bit and stop such a puddle but still are more pant-like than nappy.

Also got a portable potty for when we're out but not sure if she'll realise in time to use it (or will go in front of everyone - it's a big open hall).

My mums got me worried as well as we'll be walking round (five mins from the house) and keeps saying she'll get a chill if she wets herself outside.

Just looking for advice as to anything else and a wee bit of hand holding as I'm worried about undoing all our good work. DH says to ignore my mum and if she pees she pees but I'm still really nervous about this next stage.

When I started taking my DS out I would either encourage him to do a wee before we left, or take him to the toilet as soon as we arrived (if we were going somewhere with a loo). Also kept telling him both on the way there and whilst we were there that he should tell me if he needed a wee wee and then we could go and use the "special" playgroup toilet.

Seemed to work ok, he has never had a wee accident when we've been out and about although had the odd one at home for quite a while after he was out of nappies. Perhaps just because I was more vigilant when we were going out.

If you're really worried about a puddle why not put her in some nice thick track suit trousers that would soak up most of the wee before it gets to the floor! Then change her straight away obviously.

And I'm with your DH - if she pees, she pees, all you can do is be prepared. I really don't think 5 mins max outside in wet trousers is going to give her a chill.

Take her the toilet as soon as you arrive, physically put her on it even if she says she doesn't want to go. Take again half way through and again when you leave.

Since you are using training pants I'm sure you need not worry about her getting cold if she has them on for a shortish while after an accident under trousers - almost every time I've taken wet ones off a child, fairly frequently with 5 DC, I have found them to be warm, not cold as the waterproof outer keeps heat in. The exception has been on the odd occasion when I have foolishly had a DD wearing a skirt and the wet pants have been exposed to very cold air.

Thanks for advice the ladies. Our first trip out was completely accident free! My clever DD1 managed to go before we left (there may have been a chocolate coin involved in bribing her to sit on the potty and do a wee) and again before we left to come back home. First times she's gone on demand. Happy mummy and happy wee girl. :)
