Potty training

Today we started potty training, how does this sound?

Any advice would be much appreciated Smile

21 month old DS has showed signs he's ready for a while and has had a few odd wee's on the potty.
More recently he's started being uncomfortable when he poos and wanting his nappy off.

So today we decided to potty train so he's naked from the waist down and we have the potty in the living room.

He had a big wee in the kitchen then another big one 15 minutes later.
Then we were cuddling on the settee and he wee'd everywhere.

Each time I have told him never mind and to wee on the potty next time.
Then while I was in the kitchen he ran in saying "poo poo" and dragged me to the living room to show me the small bit of wee on the carpet.

He is happy enough and hasn't been stressed so far but he doesn't want to just sit and watch TV on the potty.

Do we just keep on as we are and hope for the best or does anyone have some tips? Smile

Thank you!

I suspect he's not quite ready. Keep the potty out but keep the nappies for now. I found the "No cry potty training solution" book by Elizabeth Pantley really useful. Also, loads of local primary schools will be having their summer fetes which are great places to pick up story books to aid toilet training.

We always started by putting on the potty for a minute or two every hour. 21 months is very young to be trying, so you may find you give it a go and then need to go back to nappies for a few months.

Thank you for your advice, I think we will keep at it for a day or two just to see what happens but like you say he is on the young side so it's no problem.

He seemed really ready about two weeks ago, he definitely knows what it is for but now he seems less interested, maybe I missed a window of opportunity there!

Aww he is only 21 months so still early to be trained. It took my now 4 year old months to get it fully - some are quicker than others.

That is really early for a boy, just finished training my boy (the second in his peer group) - took 3 days to be dry day and night. He is 2.8yrs.

He has enjoyed having his nappy off if nothing else Grin
He loves being naked bless him!

He likes to run to the potty and sit down and make "shhhhh" noises pretending to wee.
He had one wee on the potty and three on the floor so I think we will wait until he's a little older, but we might have nappy off time for fun anyway cause he loves it
