Potty training

Help - may have taken night time pull ups off too soon. What do I do now?

DD1 potty trained in the day time at 2 1/2. Fairly easily. We've had a few minor regressions but generally she has done well. She has been heavily wet at night so has worn a pull up. I was not concerned about this and happy to wait until it was dry before trying without.

She is now 3 1/2 and has been asking just to wear pants at night. I said she need to wait until her pull up was dry. Then suddenly one night it was dry. Out of the next four nights she had a dry pull up in the morning on three days. She was very keen to try pants at night so we did.
First night she stirred at 10 so I took her to the toilet and again at approx 1. Dry in the morning. DD very happy. However we have now slipped into a pattern of lifting at 10/10:30.
She has now been in pants at night for two weeks. We lift every night. She has wet the bed four times, twice in the last two nights.

I'm worried we've tried too early. I don't like lifting as I don't think it will help her be dry but I know she'll be wet if I don't. Also she has been wet a few times despite being lifted.

Gut feeling is I need to go back to pull ups and wait until dry with no lifting however DD very resistant to this idea.

Please help.

Sorry for long post.

Don't forget about layered beds! So plastic sheet, towel then sheet on the bed. THen another plastic sheet then towel then sheet. Add a third layer if you want. So if she wets in the night give her some clean jammies to struggle in to while you take off one layer to reveal a pristine bed underneath. Wet stuff chucked in the bath. You are back in bed before you can say pullup!

THe towel is important - you need to soak up as much wee as possible to stop the duvet getting wet. I have no idea about double layered duvets!

No idea about your real problem (my youngest was trained 17 years ago...) but I hope this helps!

Thank you. The washing is a pain but not my main worry.

DD also wakes up totally when we have to change her in the night and is struggling to go straight back to sleep. She was up for several hours on Sunday night after she wet the bed. This is having a knock on effect of her being very tired and grumpy the next day.

She is also very strong willed and I think if I try and encourage her back into a pull up she's going to be very upset about it.

Feel like a fool for prob starting a bit too early. I think she just isn't ready yet but I don't know how to go back without a major tantrum and possibly knocking her confidence.

Really kicking myself today Hmm

We went back into nappies after six months in pants. We just weren't getting anywhere. The initial upset of going back is much less than the ongoing distress of constant bed wetting, disturbed sleep and stressed parents.

We also went back to pull ups after it was clear we'd tried too soon. The night time being dry took just over 2 years.

We are only on the 4th night of pants. First night was perfect (with lifting ) but wet the other 3. Must have done the wees in the morning though as she hasn't woken up wet in the night, only realised she's wet when she gets up. We are going to try no drinks after 6 and as many loo trips as possible before bed. I think we'll give it a couple of weeks.

Thank you all.

I gave it one more night last night. DD still really loves her milk at bedtime but last night I moved it so she had it with her dinner at 5. She didn't drink after that. She did a wee before bath time, wee after stories and I still lifted her at 10.

So far she hasn't woken so I'm assuming she's dry.

I'll give it a few more days and review again but will go back to pulls ups if no major improvement.

With my first daughter I found that once she started being dry at night (having had a wee before bed) she would be dry 6 nights out of 7. She stayed in pullups, I did try her without but she wet bed. This went on for months and months. Eventually she was never wet, over the course of about a month.

As for my other one 3.5 and has been dry about twice Confused .
