should i give up(14 Posts)
I am on day 6 of potty training. I have gone cold turkey and ds (who is 3.1) is only wearing nappies in bed. So far he has not done one single wee in his potry just keeps having accidents. He can go a few to several hours without weeing and holds himself before he goes and walks around in circles so seems physically ready. However every day including this morning he says he is happy to wear his big boy pants but will not wee on his potty only in his trousers. I have tried chocolate bribery to get him to sit on it, which he sometimes does but nothing comes out. Is there anyway I can get him to want to pee on the potty or do I just wait a few months for him to change his mind and then try again? Have I given it long enough?
I am absolutely no help except to say i know how you feel. I was just about to write almost the same post as this. I have tried for a week with ds with absolutely no success. He is 3 and 2 months. The thing is I work full time and my holidays are set so the next opportunity is Easter or summer if we don't crack it now. I am ready to throw in the towel as I find it so frustrating. Our little man will sit on the potty for ages but when he does he plays with his penis and gives himself an impenetrable, for wees, little erection so now I have been trying putting him on and off every 15 minutes but he is totally losing interest and no success. I have 2 older daughters and I found tt literally the worst thing about being a parent. I hoped this time would be different. Boooooooooooo hoooooooooooo.
Sorry that was really no help and just a rant. If you are free to try again in a couple of weeks I would definitely leave it in your case.
Three is a bit big really fir a potty. It's not comfortable to sit down like that.
Have you tried getting a seat for the toilet.
Aww he sounds like he is physically ready, is he usually a bit stubborn? Have you tried completely ignoring the wee on the floor and being really overly happy about any attempts at going on the potty? Is he in nursery?
I literally do not know how my son holds off seeing he has had 3 full cups of orange cordial this morning and not one wee in 3 hours of trying no accidents either. Now I have started this for sound affects when he is on the potty. Wonder if it might help you.
Giles you are a genius. Ds did a poo in the potty I nearly danced around the house in victory. Still no sign of wee so I figured I would let him stand over the toilet like daddy does and 2 wee wees done one of which he told me he had to do. I feel like opening a bottle of champagne I literally cannot believe it. Now out with the 'triangles' Doritos his post toilet treat. Now just to keep it up. I think once the seal on those 3 cups of juice is broken we will be peeing for the next hour. OP definitely give the toilet a try it might work for you too.
Thanks for your suggestions ladies! Whenever I mention trying the toilet he gets scared but I haven't got him to try it standing in front of it and peeing so I will try that and then maybe invest in one of those little attachable seats if i can persuade him to stand in front of it! I bought him a big potty that is more like a chair/throne so it does look big enough for him/comfy enough. Will give standing weeing a go in the loo tomorrow though. Or get daddy to! Anothernumberone that is amazing, congratulations!!! I hope i will be joining you in opening the champagne soon
Hurr1cane yes he is a very stubborn child! I admire him for it but is very frustrating for things like this. Tbh I could prob lay on the praise a but thicker when he does sit on the potty and i do keep interogating him about why he wants to wee in his trousers and not on the potty so i will try and shut up. It's just so annoying!!!
Take the trousers away. Go bare bottom for a couple of days. When you need to wee take him to try too.
We are potty training this week too due to work timetables.
Hi Ladyflower just seeing this again now. How are you getting on with it now?
We have not really looked back. I will say that because it is new year we have had to rely on pull ups when we are out and about which is far more than I would like when toilet training. However if you stand ds in front of the loo on his step and lean him over he pees like a Roman cherub in a fountain. He knows exactly what he is there for which is a miracle considering the week we had before this one.
It is all coming from us though, he has not suggested peeing again since the first successful day. I am petrified since I am heading back to work on Monday so I have no idea how the childminder and au pair will manage him. They split his day between them. Also we have only had poos in the pull ups in the last 2 days since he has managed to do them when we have been out and about so that hurdle faces us too.
How are you going to manage next week Mrs Diesel? Have you any idea?
I have stocked up on cheap joggers and underpants, the childminder and pre-school are both on board and he seems to have grasped it really well.
Childminder has young children of her own so is no stranger to potty training
My childminder will be the same but the au pair naturally won't have a clue and initiative would not be her strongest suit. We will have to see what happens.
