On Monday evening I put the potty out, just to get my 22month old used to it being around, to my surprise done 4 wees in it before bed. So the next day, I stripped off his bottom half and let him run around with nothing on his bottom half, he done a poo in his potty without me even asking and carried on weeing in his potty. This is not a problem for him at all.

BUT.........the problem I have is, when it put anything on his bottom half ( his pants and trousers) and he goes to the potty and sits, but he doesn't pull down his pants and before I can get to him, he wees with them on. I have explained to him that he needs to pull them down but doesn't seem to understand.

I am more than willing to go at his speed with potty training, but I feel this is right for him at the stage of his development, but I don't know how I can overcome him not being able to get the idea of pulling his pants down before sitting on his potty, does it come with practise?

Also, he never tells me he needs a wee (hiss speech is very limited), he just goes to the potty, which means I am constantly looking with the signs of him needing a wee (pinching his willy etc) which when we are out is difficult.

Thank you in advance to any answers I recieve. It's much appreciated.

Maybe let him wet his pants on the potty a good few times (and keep then on) so he can make the link between weeing with them on and feeling wet afterwards?

It IS hard when going out for the first few weeks, but it gets better. I avoided pull-ups as I thought it gave a funny message after introducing the new idea of wearing pants. I popped a sanitary towel in his pants when going anywhere it would be disastrous to have an accident!

But your LO sounds like he's doing amazingly well so I reckon it'll be quick. You've only been going a few days so I wouldn't worry, he'll get the hang of it :-)

Oh, and could you introduce a sign language sign for needing a wee? Might help if he's not ready to tell you with words yet?

Thank you for your reply.i never thought of a sign word for wee wee, great idea. It's my daughters christening tomorrow, so I think a sanitary pad inside his pants is a good idea, defiantly while we are inside the church. Thank you again for your advice Wink

Old fashioned trainer pants - terry with a waterproof outer are very useful at this stage. I envy you such early enthusiasm for the potty - even if it seems a bit double-edged at the moment.
