Potty training

Someone talk me through this please!

Ds1 is 2.5 and I am starting potty training tomorrow. He's known for a while that "when we're back from holiday, no more nappies" so it won't be a shock. I'm prepared for lots of accidents and reminding him to go to the toilet or potty. What else do I need to do? DH thinks I should read up on it a bit more but to be honest I'm completely exhausted (I also have a 4mo DS) and just can't face "reading up on it". I'm not expecting results tomorrow but perhaps some tips would be good!
Thanks!

We started when DD was 2.5 as well. We just went cold turkey, one day she was in nappies and the next she wasn't. It took about 3 days for her to recognise the sensation of needing to go to the toilet and she would then start heading to the loo herself, but not always make it! It took about a week in total, with lots of reminders about going.

We also went straight for the toilet rather than potty which she seemed to prefer. We had a portable potty that also acted like a seat over the toilet and that was far more successful than the potty.

It sounds like you're pretty well prepared, as you say just be ready for accidents, don't let it get you down, maybe sticker rewards to start off with - they soon forget about them!

Good luck!

We started today with ds who is 2.9. We went straight for the toilet as he has long legs and I thought a potty would be uncomfortable.
However, we have not managed to get anything in the toilet! I've taken him every 20 minutes or so and after every accident but he has just carried on regardless. Hoping for a drier day tomorrow!
