Potty training toddler with premature baby still in hospital

I have a 2yrold DS1 and a 7 week old premature baby DS2, who is still in hospital, and will be for approximately another month. DS1 has just today decided that he is ready for potty training, and he is doing rather well at the moment. The only problem is, we will be going to see his brother every day, and it takes an hour to get there on the bus. How should I go about potty training him during this time? Many thanks.

Honestly? I wouldnt. I had a 2yo and a dd born 13 weeks early and there was way too much on my plate. Even more so when we all got home... Giving 16meds a day. 60 outpatient appts, 3 hospitalisations. Plus siblings often regress when baby comes home. I think Id let him wear pants at home if yr really sure but put him in nappies for out and about. Or revisit it in 3 months.

We use pull-ups just for long journey to nursery and back or when visiting somewhere where an accident would be a disaster. It works fine.

We waited til ds was 2.8 and he was accident free within 48 hours using stickers as bribes. The later you leave it the less work it is. Days rather than weeks of stress. Plus its thought to be better psychologically for them, fewer risks of constipation etc. And if ds2 is likely to hit 80+ days in hospital (dd came home after 81 days) by the last few weeks you are literally running on fumes you're so exhausted. I couldnt have potty trained in between expressing, tube feeds, meds schedules, top ups, sterilising, regular paeds clinics, and trying to be a regular mum of two too. I'd pick the summer. Life w a premmie is tough enough. Be kind to yourselves.
