Potty training

Well its almost 3pm...

and DS 3.2yo has managed to hold in his wee all day so far.

This is our second attempt potty training. He is totally capable, aware etc but will NOT go near the toilet. He tantrums and physically won't let me sit him on there if I take him to the toilet. He holds it in until he wets himself instead (usually quite soon after I've taken him). He also refuses to drink so obviously makes the link between drinking and weeing.

Poo's are held until his bedtime nappy. We've tried star charts, bribes with choc buttons, promise of a toy - nothing works. Its killing me and can't be fun for him to hold his wee in all day.

He won't look at a potty/pee against a tree, just not interested.

Has anyone got any suggestions please? Shall I just keep on as we are and let him hold it and wet himself? He's also very grumpy due to holding it in and its such hard work. Argh. He's a stubborn nightmare in general at the moment so its maybe just that.

Any help would be gratefully received.

TIA

Try getting him to pee in a jug, and see how full he can get it?
Or standing in a bath of water?

The poo thing is common, i'm not sure there is much you can do about that apart from wait until he's ready.

Thanks he did wee in a jug at bathtime but also had another accident in the park. I'll keep at it.

How about letting him wee outside? Play in the garden and ask him to water a tree/fence/shrub. Little boy wee doesn't seem to upset plants... Mine (now 3.6) refused to go near the loo or sit on a potty, but would happily wee al fresco last summer. Once he gets the idea, put a Cheerios in the loo and see if he can blast it with his wee. IME poos are harder to crack - mine has only just, in the last few weeks, started pooing in the loo. Get wees sorted first!

Thanks all. He has come on in the last week. Most wees go in the potty now and he had a nice wee against a tree in the park this morning. No progress with sitting on the toilet or poos but I'm just happy he is going on the potty and is improving. Appreciate all your suggestions Smile

Great to hear it!
once he gets the hang of wees get him to sit on the potty WITH his nappy on to poo, as the first step.
Then after a while you should be able to cut a hole in the nappy and make the hole bigger each time he goes so you end up with just the waistband, then nothing.

Thanks Pirate, its so nice to have some support with the hell that is potty training. We've had wee's on small toilets, wee's in the park and one poo on the big toilet. I almost cried with pride - ridiculous. No accidents now for 5 days :) I will try the hole in the nappy to encourage more poo's!
