Nappies when out, potty at home?

I think I know the answer to this question already but here goes.

Dd is only 2y 1 month. I planned on waiting as long as possible to train her.
She's been showing lots of interest in loo and potty.

So on Monday night I got the potty down and took off her nappy at about 5pm.

Between then and bedtime she did 2 on potty and no accidents

So I gave training a try on Tuesday and it went fairly well. Except she had accidents at 6pm and 7pm.

Then this morning she just point blank refused to go on the potty. Shouted no and ran away whenever I suggested that she try.

She had two accidents. I gave up because she's so young and I thought id rather wait unless she's super ready. Also I wanted to go out!!

So I stuck a nappy on her. Went out. She then had a nap.

She did a poo at 4pm and didn't want nappy back on so I left it off and she's done 2 wees on potty and no accidents tonight.

Am I mad/wrong etc to consider nappies most of the day but let her have a couple of hours before bed w no nappy.

This seems okay to me, at least until you, and her are seriously ready to train.

How about old fashioned terry lined waterproof training pants as an interim measure? I would not have been without them at this stage (and, indeed, a lot later!)

We have been doing this for a few months. Dd is 2.5.
I started properly training her this week, she hasn't had one accident so far.
The worst part of it is staying at home for a few days but I decided to bite the bullet now while she's willing and it's going perfectly.
I do believe letting her use the potty flexibly for the last few months has really helped. Definitely no harm in it Grin

Not mad at all. It's exactly how I started with my first born. No nappy or knickers from 4pm til bedtime. This seemed to inspire her to spend longer without a nappy in the day when out and about. I'll be honest, I was very relaxed so there were quite a few accidents along the way. Probably did that for 3 months or so and now at 2yr 7mths is finally 'toilet trained'.

A friend recommended the "potty training in a week" book by Gina ford.... Dd showed all signs of being ready, I waited a few weeks until I was ready too and could dedicate a week at home with her and took the plunge!

Nappies only at sleep times, pants all day. Mixing them up can send confusing messages apparently (according to the book) dd is doing fabulous.... Hardly any accidents and we are 3 weeks in!

She did have a few bad days in week 2 as I think she just got bored of it, but I think wet pants and leggings were less appealing so she came back on track Grin

Everyone does it different I guess, whatever works fir you

Thanks for the replies
There's been a couple of days that she hasn't wanted her nappy off. But whenever it's been off she's weed on potty or toilet. And I can see a funny look of almost off focus concentration (!) when she's about to wee and she says'coming' then does her wee.

So she's starting to get the idea

I think potentially she could potty train if I was super keen but she's not yet at the refusing nappies stage so I'm waiting a while. For summer!
