Dd is 3 in a couple of weeks time (although was born 9 weeks early so should have been 3 early May). Anyway, we tried potty training in October last year and it was a disaster - she ended up that she wouldn't go in the potty or her nappy and was holding it in and getting very distressed. I asked her if she wanted her nappies again and she said yes and has been perfectly happy since. Now she is approaching 3 I feel under pressure from DM and MIL who both think she should be potty trained by now. I think she may be more ready for it now as everything is about being "a big girl" these days! However we have just sold our house and will be moving mid April and I just think there is a lot of upcoming upheaval for DD which even if she cracks it this time will probably just set her back. What do you all think? Would you try?

I'd wait until you've moved and the weather is warmer, then she can play outside with nothing on and you can dry washing a bit quicker. Moving is a massive upheaval and you're only likely to have a few steps backward in any progress she's made.

See that was my thinking. I guess mil and dm have just made me question myself a bit. Think I will stick to my guns on this one and wait until we've moved. The selling of the house has been traumatic enough for her, she's really been playing up.

Go with your instincts; I know that older generations have their own ideas on how things should be done but you're the one doing it and you know your child better than anyone.

Good luck too; I'll be potty training for my 3rd child in a few months and I'm not looking forward to the washing!

If she is ready she'll crack it in a few days. Shy don't you try and see. My DD recently told me "pants now"'and that was it. Took her a few days - no more than 2 weeks - to potty train.

I asked her today if she'd like to try big girls pants and using the potty like her friend (who is newly potty trained) - she got upset and said she doesn't want to. Am going to wait til we are settled in our new home, there's no rush. Thanks for all replies :)
