Potty training

Should I not be doing this yet?

Today is day 1 of potty training. DD is very young (22 months), but has been showing all the signs of being ready to be trained. I have been sitting her on the potty after sleeps and before bath for a while (in a no pressure way) and she gets really excited when she does smth on the potty and the last few weeks has been managing to do a wee most of the time. She has also been trying to take nappy off recently and asking for potty.

Today we haven't had a single accident, but neither has she done anything in the potty apart from a few drops (which still got lots of praise). However, her lunchtime nap nappy was very full (I am keeping nappy for nap and night time for now).

Am I starting too soon? Is it normal? I suppose at least it's showing she has bladder control??? Any advice?

Not too early at all. I started my dd at 22 months, and within a couple weeks she was fully potty trained, she showed lots of signs of readiness like taking off her nappy and peeing on a potty we'd had for a while. It was much easier than I thought. Go for it!

Thank you, cloudhands. It's been 4 days, we've had a total of 3 wees on the floor, a poo in the potty and a handful of tiny wees in the potty. The rest have all been in the nappy at lunch time nap and night time. Is that normal? I'm thinking if she were holding wee in, she wouldn't be able to stop mid flow as it were when she does her tiny wees? Thank you!

Not sure about the tiny wees tbh! It sounds like it is doing well, she understands what the potty is for. Do you put her on the potty just before and straight after her nap? Maybe she will gradually transition from doing wees in her nappy to in her potty

Yes, I've been doing that for a while and she was doing really well (on the potty 3 times a day after sleeps and before bed and did good wees or even poos at least 1 of those times, often more).

She has been really miserable all week we've been doing this, not eating and generally being extremely difficult. I worry that I am stressing her too much with it (and myself). So have decided to go back to nappies and maybe pull ups and try it gradually again.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.
