Potty training

Day 1 Potty Training. She needs a poo but will not go

Dd is 2.7 and today is the first day potty training. At the moment she's got a naked bottom (for ease)

She has lovely peppa pig pants, toilet seat and stool and is being praised to high heaven for being a big girl like her friends in nursery.

She'll sit on the toilet with no problem but just won't go.

We've had two (wee) accidents and I caught her as she was pooing in her pants - a tiny bit of poo was in her pants but when I took her to the toilet she wouldn't go.

We sat for ages, singing about the poo going down and swimming away, waving bye bye to the poo etc etc... Still nothing.

She still needs to poo, she keeps touching her bottom and saying poo but when she sits on the toilet its like she's holding it in - how long can she hold it in for? I'm just sitting here waiting for signs (ready to pounce :))

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Try distracting her maybe by reading her a story when she's sitting on the loo?

Chocolate buttons. One for a wee, 2 for a poo.

Worked like a dream.

DTs forgot about the buttons after a few weeks.

Best of luck Grin

Oh yes! I did the same chocolate buttons trick as TreeLuLa.

It worked like a charm for DS1.

DS2 was made of sterner stuff. When offered a chocolate button after a successful wee in the potty he looked me in the eye, stamped his little foot & said:

"Want packet!"

Good luck OP Grin

Thanks :) I've been reading to her on the toilet.

Tbh when she did poos in her nappy she'd go off and hide - I think its more of a privacy thing for her so I tried waiting outside while she sat on the toilet but after 5 mins she just got off and washed her hands anyway...

Bribery with choc buttons seems worth a go.

Should I reconsider if we have no success at all today? I'm of the mind that once we start we perservere but with no success what would you do?

Blowing bubbles is supposed to help. Something to do with it having an effect on the muscles "down there"!!!

We have just succeeded with DD2. This week she told me she needed a poo and kept telling me to "read your book" while waiting with her.

I don't have any great words of wisdom, just lots of experience at spying the poo face and legging it to the toilet with her.

Good luck Grin

Thanks, I'll try the bubbles :)

We've just had accident no. 3 :( again it was the privacy thing - she hid behind the couch and by the time I got to her she had piddled.

I still took her up to the toilet and on the way up she said to me 'Oh dear' !!!

Oh well, only day 1 and bedtime at 7 so no doubt she'll poo in her nappy overnight.

Not giving up though.

Thanks for your help :)

The bubbles sound like a good one, I'll try that too! Have been using raisins as ds loves them and they're also laxative! May have to graduate to chocolate buttons though as they sound like they're quite successful. Although I may end up eating them...
