Refusing to sit on the potty or toilet - but now taking nappy off to pee anywhere.

DS is 2y 9m. We have had the potty around for about 9m but he has been completely resistant to trying it and would throw the potty out of the room and scream and tantrum if you suggest he sit on it.

Out of the blue on saturday he went and plonked himself on the potty in his PJs so I gently persuaded him to get undressed and got him to sit on the potty to watch fireman sam and with a drink we managed our first pee in the potty. Hurrah! I gave him a little packet of sweets and put his big boy pants on thinking I'd give it a go .... we had 3 accidents at home despite putting him on the potty at regular intervals (he would sit on there for a while and then go when he got off and was dressed). Fair enough - it was a start.

Yesterday he completely refused to go near the potty / toilet again and as we had a really busy day I put him in a nappy when we went out (probably a mistake with hindsight?) He is now taking his nappy off and peeing wherever he likes. In our bed at 4am and now on the sofa and the stairs this morning. He is refusing to go on the potty/toilet - so I am not sure where to go from here.

Any advice/shared experiences welcome.
