My son turned 2 in sept just gone, on and off i've tried to get to potty train but the result is always the same, refusing to sit on the potty, toilet going stiff deliberately if I try and sit him down.

He hides to poo so on some level he must be ready. What do I do? I'm scared he'll be one of those 5 year olds still in nappies.

He's 2.5 - relax. He's clearly not ready and if he's not ready there's nothing either of you can do about it; it's a physical development, just like crawling or sitting up. Wait. Try again when he's 3, or maybe in the summer when it's easier for him to be nappyless.

Whatever you do, don't make it into a big deal. I was like that with my oldest - caused far more stress than I needed to.

The simple advice is don't worry too much. Stress and potty training do not go well together.

You are probably right, if you think he is ready physically, then he probably is BUT I would give the potty training a break for a couple of months, to give you and him a break.

Does he see any other children using the potty?

He goes to playgroup so he will see some kids using the toilet.
