Potty training

Missing the loo

I must be doing something wrong but half the time I put DS on the toilet training seat he ends up spraying over the top. I always ensure "he" is pointing down (as much as possible), and have even tried wedging a bit of loo paper to stop the inevitable floods. He is basically toilet trained, but I still keep being the cause of all the wet pants. Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I solved this with ds by letting him pee standing up.

He stands on he step and has great aim. It is a prob when out, but we pull his pants and trousers right down around his ankles and place him as far back as possible.

When ds did pee sitting down I mde him make sure it was pointing down.

Thanks KN. I think that I am not getting it to stay down. Without being indelicate there isn't a lot to point down (cold house?).
Dread trying the standing up but fear it may be the only option.

Sometimes it is a matter of sitting position. I think you are more likely to get spray if they sit with their thighs very close together which forces their bits upwards, and also if they slump.

I found that DS sitting legs apart so that the bits are between them, and sitting with a straight back and bottom sticking out backwards altered the angle of his pelvis and holding the willy downwards worked quite well.

When DS could stand to wee he coped quite well by standing on my feet when out, which raised him just enough to reach over the toilet rim.

Isn't there a urinal for toddlers that hangs on the toilet rim, and it tips into the toilet to empty? That might be easier to aim for and no need for a step, and less splashback because he will be standing closer to it.

I think girlywhirly you may be right as he always clenches his knees together when I put him on. Will re-examine position and wrestle with him when next one due!

ds used to have to strip from the waist down so his legs were wide enough to point his willy down properly.

I have found pants etc do keep his knees together, but we have had some success since girlywhirly's advice. Seems it was his slouch that was causing the urine shower. Thanks all.
