Potty training

Anyone got a cold turkey success story?

so we decided to try cold turkey with DS after trying pants on and off/here and there with some success, but with him refusing to sit on potty or loo. So we've talked to DS about it for a couple of weeks, he helped me put his nappies away last night and then it's been pants and pull up trousers today.

Day 1 and I'm already tearing my hair out. Around 15 wees, not one in the loo or potty. Maybe I lack the patience for cold turkey?!?

The one success has been that he has sat on the loo and potty plenty of times and has tried. But by the end of the day, he was shattered and I was stressed :-(

Has anyone had success with this approach?

Maybe try leaving off the trousers, as they might still feel as though he has a nappy on. By the time he's wondered 'am I wearing a nappy or not' it's too late and he's wet. With just pants, he might feel the difference in temperature and it serves as a reminder.

You could try again in this way, and see how he gets on. He might have learned yesterday from all the accidents what it feels like just before a wee happens.

What convinced me that my DS was ready, was leaving him bare bottomed, with potty to hand, and keeping a close eye on him. Nursery suggested this to try the weekend before he went cold turkey, if he put himself on the potty with almost no accidents, he was ready. He would suddenly stop what he was doing and tense up, then make for the potty and sit down. Every time he did this he did something in the pot. He did have the odd accident though. It was nursery who suggested just wearing pants while he was there, because on his first day cold turkey, he wet all the clothes I'd provided and some of theirs as well. I have to say that the second day was great, he asked for the potty and always did something, no false alarms. By the next weekend he was able to try with trousers as well, he would shout 'potty' and I would help him with his clothes. I did have to do this immediately, as you don't have much time between the warning and the flood!

The other thing I should mention, was that my DS was sitting on the potty at nursery, after meals, for some weeks before the training. He got to the point of always doing something, even though he wore a nappy the rest of the time. He was confident to do wees and poos.
