Hi
My dd (2.3) has made real progress over the past couple of weeks when the weather got good again and if we are at home and she only has a top on she will wee AND poo in the potty - no accidents (apart from once.... when I think she just wanted my attention!!).
However, as soon as I put pants and/or trousers on her she will wee in them and then take them off and sit on the potty when it's too late.
How do I make the move? I have kept her bare bottomed most of the time as I have been so pleased at how she is doing.
I have not ventured out without a nappy on yet either!
Any hints/tips gratefully received!
Lala

My DS did this out of clothes dry and clean at 18 months but wearing anything he couldn't/didn't want to be bothered. Until he was nearly 3 years and I threatened that nursery (which he was really looking forward to starting) wouldn't take him, unless he used the potty, so he did !

I would stick with been bottom free and keep trying clothes but carry nappy and spare trousers, it will click one day, it is just a matter of the child wanting to do it. You know she has the skills, she has to decide to do it.

Just found this - my daughter is the same. 22 months. We decided to give it a go as we were staying in all day Sunday and she did really well. Yesterday she did pretty well too and I decided not to ask her if she needed a wee to see if she was really ready - she took herself to the potty and weed/pooed every time, apart from once, when she had pants on. She has had accidents every time she wears pants. I think she doesn't understand they are not nappies, though I keep telling her. She can't actually pull them down by herself either which doesn't help!

In fact, whilst typing this she has done another wee in her pants. She knew she was doing it and said wet etc and "off" re taking pants off.

Someone on the potty training support thread said her son was the same and it took a good morning of hell - non-stop accidents - to get him to realise. And then it got gradually better. Am not sure what to do as she sometimes doesn't want pants on - and there isn't any point her being "potty trained" but only with no bottoms on in the house. She needs to be able to do it with pants on too but of course I don't want to force her to put them on if she doesn't want to!
