How to train DC who don't care about being wet

I've posted before in frustration. DD, 3.3, was given big girl pants by Santa (grr) and so we embarked on toilet training on Xmas Day last year. She was so determined to wear pants like all her wee friends, she really refused to wear nappies. I have found this the worst aspect of child rearing so far. DD has mastered poos in the toilet after using the milky way method - ie bribery and corruption in the last month or so. But weeing is hit and miss. In the last few weeks it has got worse, having really improved to the point of only having to take out two changes when out and about for the day!

DD seems to be a leaker. Its rare for her not to have a damp patch, and she often says she needs to go, and then stands still and does a wee in her pants. She definitely knows when she needs to go. She attends two nurseries during the week, and I think they are getting a bit fed up with it too. Once she is wet once, she will be wet another 2-3 times, during the day. I have booked an appt with GP to check she doesn't have a UTI, and to get some advice - the dampness has made her red sore at times.

I am at the end of my tether, and she knows that accidents make me 'not pleased'. I know I will get told she wasn't ready, but I just think all kids are different, some train easy, some don't. A bit like some eat green veg, some don't.

Is this normal? Do we just need to keep persevering? Can someone give me hope?

Ask the DR about constipation too, this is often linked to wetting of the type you describe. If it is a UTI, perhaps the stinging/burning when she wees is what she is trying to avoid by holding back until she can't hold anymore.

Another thing you could try is having set toilet times through the day, rather that waiting for DD to go by herself and have accidents. Then you can praise her for the intervals when she is dry.

Thanks girly, I hadn't thought about constipation being part of the mix.
