Potty training

Night training - am I wrong to put DS1 4.6 back in pull ups? Or should I persevere?

DS1 has been out of pull ups for just over a week now. Prior to that, he'd had plenty of dry nappies overnight, though not always consecutively iyswim.

I didn't hurry to take him out of nappies as we had various nights away planned, weddings, visits to Granny etc, but now they're out of the way and we thought it was the right time to night train him.

We started last week. The first night he was dry, then wet, then dry, then wet, then dry, then 3 wets in a row.

I make sure he has a decent drink before 6 pm and he does a wee before bed.

He has got up in the night to have a wee, several times, and he was a nightlight so he can see what's he's doing. He does sleep on the top bunk but there's nothing I can do about that, and it doesn't seem to be an issue in that he has taken himself to the loo in the night on several occasions with no problems.

On the nights he was wet, he seems surprised to find that he's wet when he wakes. The bed seems fairly dry, as if he wee'd hours ago and it's started to dry out. He never wakes in the night to tell me he's wet, he just seems to sleep through the whole thing.

I'm on the verge of sticking him back in pull ups for the time being on the basis that while he can go through some nights, he can clearly wee in his sleep and not even realise it.

Anyone think I shouldn't do this, and I should persevere?

Watching with intrest, my Ds1 is also 4.6 and still wet at night, hardly any dry nappies at all, ds2 2.8 was dry at night straight away so ds1 gets frustrated and doesn't want to wear a nappy because he feels like a baby Sad I know it's normal at that age not to be dry at night but ds1 gets upset about it,

It's tough isn't it? Ds was overjoyed to have a nappy back on tonight, not sure if that's good or not!

If he is happy I would keep putting him in one, I think there is a hormone that has to kick in to make them wake up at night to use the toilet, something like that anyway.

I looked into getting pant type things to make him feel more grown up, they went up to age 9, but they're soo expensive.

Well I think we're back in nappies for the time being. I'm lucky 'cos he's happy to wear them, and endlessly changing sheets on the top bunk was swiftly losing it's appeal!

Good luck persuading your DS backinto his - as you say, the pant sort are extortionate!
