Question: Which toilet should a male use when taking DD to the loo??

Hi,

My & my DH are having a dilema over when he takes our DD out on his own and she needs the toilet, should he take her into the ladies or the mens??

I say it should be the ladies for a number of reasons:

  1. There won't be any mean standing with their bits out wee'ing up urinals for her to see
  2. he can go in cubicle with her
  3. Ladies toilets are generally cleaner (and nicer smelling than mens) Wink

He disagrees and says he always takes her in the mens!!

Is there a politically correct answer to this question?? I'd like to hear what other people think on this?

Sorry that was meant to read:

  1. There won't be any MEN standing with their bits out (soz)

Is their a way of editing your posts after you've posted them?? Confused

Dh takes her to the ladies. He says mens toilets can be unspeakably revolting

He is a man, so of course should go in the mens!
Pretty much most people (women) will be offended at seeing a man in the ladies loo. No-one at all will be offended by seeing a small child in the opposite gender toilets.

When taking a child to the toilet in public, you should go into the toilet appropriate for the adult.

He has to take her to the mens surely?!? I wouldn't be that impressed by finding an adult man in the women's toilets.

There should still be cubicles in the male toilets, and he can go in with her.

..... However, I've now seen far more than I'd like to of mens toilets, as my 4 y.o. Ds now won't go in the ladies, but inevitably has some toilet paper/squeezy soap crisis that I need to get involved in.

basically: have a baby; leave your dignity at the door.

Yep, he should take her to the mens toilets because he is a man.

Bramshott & Sylanian - Would you be offended even if the man had a female child with them?

Pfft - Your comment reads as if you are certain that is the ruling? Is that so? Looks like im going to eat a bit of humble pie & apologise when he getss home tonight if so haha

Try to take her to disabled, or to toilets where he knows it is one toilet eg, most small cafe's will have one shared toilet or one of each, so no urinal situation.

I don't think a man accompanied by a small child is a problem in any gender toilet. I exercise appropriate modesty in public toilets in any case. The most private thing that someone might see (outside the cubicle obviously) would be me doing my mascara in the mirror. Big whoop.

Mens surely?!

A children young enough to need taking to the toilet shouldn;t be offended by seeing a brief glimpse of a mans willy but adult women have a right to feel threatened by the presence of an adult male in a womens toilet when they aren;t expecting it.

And wouldn't your DH feel massively more uncomfortable in a ladies toilet than your DD in a men's toilet? I take DS into the womens changing rooms at the pool and he isn;t scarred for life my seeing the flash of a naked bosom at 5.

OP - have you ever seen a man in the ladies toilets?
I cant recall ever having seen one in the ladies and would be very Hmm if I did see one in there.
If it was the norm for a man to take a small child into the ladies or vice versa then you'd frequently see men in the ladies toilets and women in the mens toilets.
The fact that you dont indicates that its the norm for the adult to go in the appropriate toilet for them!

Now that would cause more of a problem for me at the moment because she already wants to use my make up whilst im trying to get ready ;O) so think i'll let her go into the mens instead (you never know though she COULD encounter the same problem in there too) Wink

Your DH cannot enter the ladies toilets as he is a man. Surely you realise this. It doesn't make a blind bit of a difference whether he has your DD with him or the whole cast of Annie, he still shouldn't go into the Ladies.

Followme - now that you come to mention it no I haven't (only male cleaners here at work on the odd occasion) and it DOES feel a little strange lol.
Don't think i'd be offended if I did see a bloke bringing his DD in one though, but the majority seem to think its the other way round. God I HATE being wrong with my DH hahaha

from experience men aren;t exactly waving their willes around so I doubt see get much of a view.

Hmmm, funny, I'm against the majority here.

I think he should take her into the women's loos. There are only cubicles in women's loos, so I don't see why women would be bothered if a man comes in - what is he going to see? Whereas there are urinals in men's loos which might make both the DD and the other men in there uncomfortable.

I'd say a woman with a small son should also use the women's loos, for the same reason.

DH is right - the men's - I rather suspect he could get into trouble if he took her into the ladies! I take the point about men's toilets being vile but your dh just has to find one he is happy with.

It's not the nudity. It is

a) the child being able to recognise the pictures on the door and feeling strongly that they want to go in the 'right' toilet. Gender awareness kicks in big time at this age (cue pink angst and the rest)

b) sometimes the mens toilets are really, really unsanitary. Don't know why, but they sometimes are.

it'd be a good enough reason for me to give it a swerve when there is a small grabby child involved.

Like I said, I'm at the other end of this now, that I'm forever having to sidle into the mens with my ds.

Thanks for all your replies, I will stand corrected on my views Blush

As I read it, Sylvanian's DS wants to go to the male loos on his own but then needs her to come and help him... so she ends up in the men's loos with him anyway.

We're SO not wrong Dawnyann Grin
