I'm so very desperate. My son has never really been that good at wee's or poos in the loo. We gave up nappies when he was 3 and been trying ever since. We've had periods where its been better, but he mostly has accidents every day. He poos in pants too. He never asks to go to the loo. I always have to get him to go. Yes I've tried leaving it to him but he just seems not bothered by it. He's been prescribed laxatives as it may be constipation, which he's currently taking but nothing seems to help. he hates going to the toilet. I don't think he's afraid tho. I have to force him to go. I'm trying not to shame him or show I'm upset, but thats easier said than done. At school they have to make him go.. again he never asks. I've done rewards, takingaway toys,.. but he's so strong willed he plain refuses to go. He holds on for a couple of hours, I ask him if he needs to g.,o and then just wets himself a little later. He's a particularly bright child and does immerse himself in his activite(play/writing/reading etc). BUT.. weirdly.. DRY AT NIGHT! whats that about. One thing I know I need to try is a drinking asd weeing routine..Please can someone offer some other advice. Deperate. he's 5 soon.Confused

Think maybe if you get the constipation sorted then pee will follow. DS had chronic constipation and was on movicol as well as lactulose, plus pico lax for use every 2-3days without a poo. We also had micro-enemas for when he really needed to go but couldn't. He did poo himself, but the thing was, that he wasn't really, it was overflow of soft poo around the big hard lump IYSWIM and he couldn't really feel it. The problem is the rectum becomes so stretched, it gets floppy and big, and a)doesn't have power to squeeze poo out, and b)doesn't have the sensation of being full and ready. Need to set a routine, use a step for him to push down on, practice squeezing-read stories etc to entertain plus all the usual of eating fruit etc. It is not nice and took us several months before DS was even clear of being constipated, and then had to retrain his control. Was on all the mess for nearly a year and we then had a slow step-down from them, only needs a little lactulose occasionally now. We found that once poo issues sorted then pee was easy, as they were so linked, that it was more that he accidentally pee'd when he was trying to stop the poo coming out(as it was so big it hurt:( )Hope that helps! Good luck:)

Thanks.. have been precribed movicol now. Its been 3 days and thought we'd have a more poo coming out. Only a bit at a time is coming out. we've been told to use 1 sachet a day, but looking at some articles, kids may need more. This is what has been advise by the incontenence nurse. I may just have to see how it goes for a week and call her then to see if we should increase. Crazy that is can take months to sort out the problem. Curious to know how long it will/can take to empty the bowel, and thereafter, when the bowel will go back to its size.... Happymm how long do you think it took? I think my sons had soiling had soiling problems for a year or so, prob been constipated all this time. fell so upset that I was getting to cross with him...now knowing that he couldn't feel it coming out.
