Potty training

DD 2.3 - Am I mad to start toilet training ?

We had a false start at 2.0 as she wanted to wear some Charlie and Lola underwear. At nursery they said that she would go to the loo before lunch but say that she was done, stand up walk 100ft away and wee in her pants ! We tried a couple of days, but I thought that we'd have a break as she obviously isn't getting it.

So now she is asking again. We are snowed in (and I only have 5 nappies left !) and so I thought I'd start again. her bladder control is fantastic. She hasn't done a wee all morning though. I have sat her on the toilet with a training seat (as she wants to do it like me) a few times and she hasn't produced anything.

I have lied her down for a nap on a plastic sheet, but I don't presume she'll be dry when I get her.

Do you think I am doing it too early and I am being too optimistic ? I just thought as we are not going anywhere and we have run out of nappies that we should give it a go for a few days, and if it doesn't work out, try again in the spring.

She has her own pants, a reward chart and I have explained she'll get a star and some chocolate if she does a wee or a poo in the toilet like Mummy, Daddy and her brother as she's a big girl now.

Maybe I should just wait until the Spring and save myself some washing ? To date she has NEVER actually done a wee or a poo in the toilet (just on the floor), but I thought you have to start somewhere ?

Sorry for the ramble.

My DD1 pretty much trained herself at 2.3 with no bother, just started taking herself off to the potty. Probably worth a try as long as you're prepared to treat it as an experiment and abandon if need be.

DD2 is 2.5 - about 2 months ago she had a couple of successful solo wees just like her big sister so I tried with her, did exactly the same as had done with DD1 and it was patently obvious within a week that it just wasn't going to work. We have abandoned the idea for the moment. She is no doubt hanging on until the week DC3 is born in Feb to announce that she wants to try again Wink

Thanks for your experiences.
I shall give it a go and see what happens. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

What a clever clogs your DD1 was - v. impressed Smile.

My DC3 is 5.5 months old. She wasn't planned, but I love having three children. So good luck with yours !

xx

v. proud of dd. Smile
In 2 days so far...
3 accidents.
2 poos (1 on the toilet, 1 on the potty).
4 wees on the potty.

I am only writing it here as none of my other friends give a crap about the toileting of dd and I felt I had to tell someone !

Am not naive. V. early days. But pleased with the progress thus far.

Excellent progress so far, DD1 had fab bladder control too. Well done!

Glad you're enjoying three - am getting a bit scared! Could do without everybody I know saying "ooh, could be any day - have you packed your bags yet? etc". Technically have 8.5 weeks to go so not exactly "any day" territory yet and would really rather not have a Christmas baby!

Thanks for the good wishes - I think poos are going to be a challenge - had a 'code red' incident (as we like to call them) with a pair of tights that had to be thrown out !

But regarding wees - she didn't have any accidents yesterday and even we'ed in the snow as I took DS1 to school and she wanted to go.

Robino - I remember those silly comments. Also a lady told me I must be due any day now and I was only 16 weeks ! Then she dug herself an even bigger hole and said that my other two were big babies and I said no they weren't - they were both 6lb'ers. As it was the third was 8 and a half pounds, and I did gain 3 stone. But still !

I have 3 under 5 and it's lovely. Feel really sad that this will be my last, making sure I'm enjoying every minute (even the sleepless nights). I actually feel sorry for people who don't have three now (which is funny because they probably feel sorry for me - poor woman with three under 5 !)

Good luck (you wont need it).

DS1 was 2yr 1 month when he potty trained in the day. DS2 was 2yr 3m. Both were very ready and very easy (dry with no accidents within a day)

If you think she's ready go for it!

My 2 dd & ds were wee trained at 2.3. Same weekend! Weird( not twins just co-incidence). But they did take longer to poo on loo. Ds took ages. Just posted on bowel thread re progress. if yr dd is doing well stick with it. It just clicks one day and u wonder what u were stressing about!
