Sertraline for PND

I have a 6 month old daughter and recently lost my mum. Nothing prepares you for losing a parent and add to that all the emotion that comes with becoming a mum I just feel so fragile and emotional and low.

I've had some counseling since having my LO but went back to the docs today because I'm still struggling with low mood, not feeling able to get out of the house and just not feeling myself etc. So she prescribed me sertraline.

I'm just worried about taking it while having to look after my daughter as she doesn't sleep very well so I already feel like a bit of a zombie and heard that sertraline can make you feel worse before you get better. I don't have family nearby and my OH works quite a busy job so him taking time off if I need extra support isn't really a option. So don't really know what to do. I just want to stop feeling this way.

Anyone else have experience of taking sertraline with a baby? Would love some hand holding that things are going to get better as at the moment I just can't see a way out of this.

Hi OP

I don't have any advice or experience with Sertraline but didn't want to read and run. So bumping this for you.

I'm so sorry for you loss, you sound like you are doing amazing though. Having a newborn is hard on its own! Do you have any friends nearby? Has your husband thought about using any holidays to spend time with you and baby? I hope you feel better soon Thanks

Hi there,

I take sertraline for diagnoses post-natal anxiety. For me, it's really worked well, enabled me to cope and enjoy my baby. I suffered it the first time round with my son, and it really was tough, I felt anxious literally ALL the time. I was determined to have a different experience with baby no.2 and I can honestly say it does work. Some people may find it a hard drug to get onto however.....just be mindful that for the first week or two, you may feel out of sorts but this will pass and it's worth it for sure. All the best x

Hey
I’ve been on sertraline for about 7 weeks now for pnd and I have been quite lucky that I haven’t had too many side effects and I didn’t really feel worse before I felt better thankfully so I can’t really help you on that front, but what I will say is that it is great to feel almost back to my normal self again and I can enjoy my beautiful daughter again now. I hope you don’t feel worse before you feel better and that you come back on here in a couple of months time and tell us how much better you feel!!!!!

Thanks all for your replies Smile

I did umm and ahh about taking them but am now on day three and so far have had a few side effects like achy jaw and feeling a bit woozy but can already see a slight improvement in my mood. So hopefully it continues this way!
