I have birth yesterday to my 3rd baby. He weighed in at a whopping 11lb2oz Shock honestly, I couldn't believe it but now I understand why I have been in so much pain with my back and hips! Anyway, the after birth pains have been horrendous, like I'm having a really long contraction. Does anybody have any suggestions of how to ease these? I've had painkillers but reached the limit to what I can have.

Congratulations ThanksCake
Yes mine were bad with my third. I think all I did was breathe in and very slowly breathe out the entire breath. Really focused on breathing it out and just said to myself it's not real, it's not going to get worse, the baby is out. Like reminding myself it wasn't going to turn into labour lol.

Yes, mine were awful with my third - like being back in labour! I think I just breathed through them, it didn't last long. Congratulations OP!

I had my 3rd 10lb 3 baby last week.
Omg the afterpains were awful. Paracetamol and ibuprofen and it only lasted a few days. Honestly thought they had left s baby in there.

The afterpains were as bad as the labour the last time for me, I was stuck to the bed!
They only lasted a short time though, that's the good news. Congratulations!!

Any chance if a photo?

Use a hot water bottle and lie flat on your stomach across the bed, try to breath and relax as it is muscles cramping that is causing the pain. Also make sure you are eating enough fiber and drinking lots and lots of water as any hint of constipation makes it much worse

Also, check your temperature and if it is up, get your HV to double check there isn't an actual problem

Mine were absolutely awful but didn't last long, couple of hours at the most. I needed gas and air to get through them. I so was not expecting that.

If you gave birth yesterday do tell the midwife. A bath and/or hot water bottle might help?

My babies were big too and I had awful afterpains after my second and third. I breastfed and the pains came every time I did a feed. I breathed through them like contractions. They're not nice but as others have said they stopped after a couple of days.
