Postnatal health

Constantly thirsty

Had a c section 10 weeks ago and was nil by mouth for 18 hours. Given a load of fluid over an IV. My body was in such massive shock that my milk never came in.

Ever since, I’ve been feeling fluidy/swollen in my hands. My body (particularly around my middle) just feels swollen. I’m constantly thirsty and I must be drinking 4-5 litres per day. I’m doing minimal breastfeeding.

Has anyone experienced this?

Hi. Have you seen your doctor? Thirst can be a sign of diabetes. I am type 1 myself and one of the first symptoms was crazy thirst. I hope it’s not that but just in case you should speak to your doctor ASAP.

I’m going to make an appointment to see a Dr this week.

Have you called 111? I’m sorry I’m not meaning to sound alarmist, but if your thirst is undiagnosed diabetes you really need to get medical help ASAP. Hopefully there is another explanation (I have no children so no experience linked to your c section) but type 1 diabetes is not to be messed with. People sadly do still die as a result of not getting medical assistance fast enough. The thirst thing really does ring alarm bells.

Can you go to a walk in clinic today. I've a medical background and would strongly advise you to go. It maybe something and nothing bit needs to be checked out today.
