Should I self refer?

My DD is 6 and half months and has never slept well...she wakes after 1 or 2 hours every night so I have to get up at least 5 times and doesn’t nap in the day very well. Obviously this has led to some severe sleep deprivation on my part!

Over the last month or so I have started to get signs of PND, but I’m sure it’s either a symptom of the sleep deprivation or caused by it. Keep losing my nerve to talk to the dr or health visitor about things. My OH is convinced it will all go away if I get some sleep!

I have noticed that in my area you can self-refer for nhs counselling rather than go through the GP. What are people’s thoughts - should I? Has anyone else gone down that route for PND? Did it help?

(Btw working on solutions for DDs sleep!!)

Hi OP, oh I know the hell
That is sleep deprivation. I understand your other half saying you will feel better after some Sleep, however, it’s not always the case - therefore I would advise you to seek counselling or talk with your GP. I have never had counselling but many people have recommended it. I went down the route of medication instead.
Please seek help. PND is awful - at the start I felt If I could just sleep It would get better- it didn’t. I waited too long for help and to this day it haunts me as my life could have been so different.
