Postnatal health

Where did my immune system go?!

Just wondering if this is normal really - I know it is common to have a low immunity while pregnant, but I seem to be having a delayed response! Had a totally uncomplicated pregnancy with no illness at all, birth was straightforward and I am normally very healthy - but since having DD I have had 4 colds in as many months. Is it just bad luck, or is a broken immune system after giving birth a thing?

Are you, possibly, a bit tired Wink? I get ill very rarely, yet managed to catch a horrible cold when my LO was just 6 weeks old. I think it might be just a mix of going through a lot physically and not having enough rest. I don't know where you're from, but it's been a very long winter here in the UK, which makes it all worse! If you eat well it should make it better too. Of course if you're still worried it's best to have it checked with a GP.

Tired? Nah. 3 hours sleep a night is plenty Grin

You’re probably right, just not enough sleep and generally run down. I mostly eat pretty well but sometimes it’s hard to bother with a demanding small person so maybe should make more of an effort on that. I am in the UK, and the North East at that so it’s been winter since, like, November 2016... probably doesn’t help!

I also found that taking these breastfeeding/post natal vitamins made me feel like a powerhouse after 6hrs sleep (well that's a lot of sleep!). Unfortunately I had to stop taking them due to digestive issues I was getting, but it's worth trying if you haven't already Smile
