Am ten weeks post partum (having had a normal delivery with no stitches) and I started a new boot camp type class last week. It is designed for women with children but isn't a postnatal specific class. I found it so so tough going and while I want to get fit fast, I'm not sure if I could be doing too much too soon. There were countless press ups and they had to be full on press ups - no going down on knees permitted. Lots of planks, skipping and burpees. My core felt so weak and I'm having regret about signing up to this. I think I'm hoping someone will say it's too much too soon so I have an excuse not to go!!

Tbh, I wouldn’t go to any class that didn’t allow variations if needed (half press ups etc). That sounds weird.

I’m only 6 weeks pp, was pretty fit pre birth. ATM I’m just walking to increase fitness and doing some Pilates to help my core. I think it’s going to be a while before I start running/doing anything more energetic.

I’m sure there are lots of people who dive straight back in but if you felt it was too much, ease up! If you can find a more gentle class that you can take baby to and increase slowly.

Good luck! x

Oh gosh, that’s actually quite dangerous. Have you been checked over by a women’s health physio to see how your stomach muscles and pelvic floor muscles are doing? You risk doing damage like giving yourself a hernia or a prolapse if you don’t start properly and build up. Something like post-natal specific Pilates would be a good place to start, after having been check by a physio.

Thanks guys. Yes I do think I have to listen to my body. Teacher kindly agreed to postpone my membership of those classes for a few months. Going to build myself up slowly in the meantime.
